Mountain travel is different from a city wedding, and a poorly planned arrival can leave the bride, groom, elderly family members, and guests tired before the actual celebration even begins. That is why we recommend planning your arrival windows, vehicle movements, guest groups, meal breaks, and overnight halts in advance.
The usual road approach is through Haridwar or Rishikesh towards Rudraprayag, Guptkashi and Sonprayag, followed by the road towards Triyuginarayan. The temple is connected by road from the Sonprayag side, with the final stretch being a mountain road where local transport and current road conditions should always be considered. The Uttarakhand government’s temple information also confirms that Triyuginarayan can be reached by road from Sonprayag.
If your family is travelling from a distant city such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata or another part of India, the easiest approach is usually to first plan your journey towards Uttarakhand and then continue by road to Triyuginarayan. For guests arriving by air, Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest major airport for the Triyuginarayan area. For rail travel, Rishikesh and Haridwar are important practical railheads, depending on your train connectivity and onward transportation plan. Official Uttarakhand information lists Dehradun and Rishikesh as key access points for the Sonprayag/Triyuginarayan journey.
If you are flying from Mumbai, Bangalore or another major city, you can land in Dehradun and continue by a pre-booked car or tempo traveller. Another option is to reach Haridwar or Rishikesh by train and continue by road. The best choice depends on your arrival time, number of guests, budget and wedding schedule.
For a private wedding group travelling from Delhi, a dedicated vehicle is often more comfortable than arranging separate public transport for every family member. Depending on traffic, weather, road conditions, stops and the exact starting point, the journey can take a full day. As a practical planning estimate, families travelling directly from Delhi should allow around 14–16 hours rather than planning the wedding schedule around the shortest possible driving time.
For this reason, we generally recommend that wedding families do not try to complete the entire journey immediately before the main ceremony. An overnight halt or an early arrival at the wedding accommodation can make a major difference, especially when elderly guests, children, or a large family group are travelling together.
Guests arriving at Dehradun Airport can continue towards Triyuginarayan by road. Depending on traffic, weather, breaks and mountain-road conditions, the journey can take approximately 8–10 hours or more. The distance and travel time should be treated as planning estimates rather than fixed timings because mountain travel can change with traffic, weather, road work and seasonal conditions.
Our suggestion for wedding groups is simple: do not plan your temple ceremony immediately after a long intercity journey. Give your family enough time to reach the accommodation, check in, freshen up, eat comfortably and rest. This is especially important for the bride, groom and senior family members.
The right vehicle depends mainly on your group size. If you are travelling with around 10–15 guests, a comfortable Tempo Traveller can be a very practical option because the entire family can travel together instead of being divided between several cars. It also makes guest coordination much easier during the mountain journey.
For smaller groups, particularly around 2–6 people, a private car may be more convenient. Families with slightly larger groups can also consider multiple cars depending on luggage, elderly guests and individual travel preferences.

The final approach from the Sonprayag side is a mountain road and should be planned with local conditions in mind. Public and official sources confirm road access to the temple from Sonprayag, while the exact condition of the route can vary with weather, traffic, maintenance and seasonal conditions.
We therefore advise wedding families not to depend on a fixed assumption that every vehicle will always be able to stop at exactly the same point. Parking and local traffic arrangements can change, particularly during busy pilgrimage periods. Current traffic-management documents also show that vehicle parking and movement around the Sonprayag/Triyuginarayan route can be regulated during the yatra season.
One important advantage of planning your wedding with a local team is that transportation can be organized according to the needs of your family. If the bride, groom, elderly parents, grandparents, or any guest has difficulty walking, tell us in advance.
